Scott Myers was a systems engineer at Memorex in late 1986 when a newspaper article quoted him as saying, "I don't have any loyalty to the company. I'm in it for me."
W. Michael Blumenthal, CEO of Unisys, which owned Memorex, was enraged by the statement. The story that went the rounds at Memorex is that he told his No. 2 man to get rid of Myers. Myers realized his days were numbered and quit.

Just mediocre, according to a study released Thursday by the Families and Work Institute, a New York organization that promotes corporate work-family programs such as flexible schedules, job sharing and child-care help. The most exhaustive look at work-family issues, it spanned three years and surveyed nearly 200 Fortune 1,000 companies.
